Even If NCLB Is Reauthorized, States Push On with Punitive School Policies and Privatization

Jan Resseger also brings up the true story of what happened in Louisiana…not the dishonest untruths purported by Campbell Brown. Just a reminder — Campbell Brown is married to a vulture capitalist….

In an important piece last week for the Education Opportunity Network, Jeff Bryant looks at the way the dynamics are shifting in punitive education “reform.”  Even if Congress reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to take away No Child Left Behind’s federally prescribed turnarounds for schools in the lowest scoring 5 percent across the states, the punitive culture has been absorbed into the states themselves.  Reform that emphasizes sanctions, rather than state investment in education for equity, is particularly appealing to legislators in these times of tax cuts and austerity budgeting.  After all, more than half the states are not yet even investing as much as they were in public education prior to the Great Recession in 2008. Test-and-punish for the lowest-scoring schools is a popular strategy, because people outside the communities where it is imposed don’t feel the pain.  The flavor of the day as far as…

Campbell Brown continues to undermine public education…

Leave it to Yahoo Nooz to feature Campbell Brown as a Saint who only wants what’s best for the nation’s kids.  Boy, can she lay it on thick.

Story here:  http://www.                yahoo.com/politics/former-cnn       -and-nbc-journalist-campbell-brown-in-125200486656.html

Let’s take this apart, shall we?

John Ward writes:

Brown’s defenders, like New York magazine writer Jonathan Chait, have argued that reform leaders like Brown — and before her, former D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee — have come under intense personal criticism from the pro-union left because labor has wanted to avoid fighting President Obama, who has empowered Education Secretary Arne Duncan to push a number of initiatives the unions don’t like.

—————–

Brown is NOT a reformer.  There was nothing to reform!  Failing schools is a self-created concept of the education profiteers who want to destroy the public education and implement corporate indoctrination, a la the Nazis and eugenics crowd.

Michelle Rhee is a sociopath who put duct tape across the mouths of the children, and then laughed when their lips started to bleed after the tape was removed, and as the link shows, she enjoyed humiliating people….firing people (who were probably better qualified than she) was a sport for her, as she gleefully tells her she’s fired.

“Pro-Union Left” — um, yeah, there are folks on both sides of the political field who are fighting against the privatization of our schools.  Ward is trying to make this a right/left issue when it is not.  He also tries to make this about unions, which totally ignores the concerned parents and general public also fighting against this.

More from the link:

Yahoo News: What are you trying to achieve with this, and what is it — is it news or advocacy?

Campbell Brown: I believe it’s a news site.

———————-

Proof right there that Campbell Brown doesn’t know the difference between news and one’s opinions.  And she calls herself a journalist.  What a joke.

————-

Ward:  …because rather than having Republicans focus on reform and choice, the right is largely focused on opposing something which is kind of the fever swamp.

Brown: Agree with that, yeah.

—————–

Ward betrays himself with the words: “the right is largely focused on opposing something…”  He previously stated that it was the left who loved unions that was opposing Common Core…but here he pretty much admits that the right is also opposing it in a big way.

Ward:  …the anti-Common Core energy on the left is also something that helps the unions, because there’s no emphasis on testing and standards and accountability.

———————-

This is insulting beyond words.  Teachers are no different than anyone else in wanting a good paying job and wanting to protect that job, but to say that is the only reason they are objecting to Common Core and the draconian NCLB is a flat out lie.  Many, many teachers have quit their jobs because they could not stand to see what the testing, testing, testing was doing to kids and the dumbing down of the children to adapt to NCLB.  They were teaching to the test instead of educating the children.

Brown goes on to be very patronizing in answer to the question “Can you offer anything on Common Core?”  She asserts that parents are too dumb to understand how brilliant she and Common Core are…and she just has to explain it to them by convoluting her answers so that parents will be even more confused and feel too self-conscious to ask her to clarify the answers.

Brown:  What we want to do with Common Core is explain it. Just put honesty and truth back into the debate,

right.

———————–

Well, that would be refreshing coming from the profiteers…oh, wait, she means that the teachers and parents against NCLB and Common Core have been dishonest and untruthful…?  Hmmm…interesting how the neocons/neolibs are always doing the very thing they accuse others of doing…

Brown:  But as states individually begin to work through these problems and address them at the legislative level, the problem goes away. It’s smoothing out. The controversy’s dying down.

———————

No, the problem is NOT going away.  The controversy is NOT dying down, or Brown and her cohorts would not feel the need to put up a website to manipulate parents and the public with twisted logic.

Brown:  There’s been a big fight between Bobby Jindal, who’s running for president, and the state superintendent, John White, over Common Core implementation. I think most people would argue that John has done a pretty good job of implementing it, and that Common Core implementation has gone better in Louisiana than it has in a lot of other places.

——————

Things have not gone well in Louisiana.  John White was altering test scores.

There are more posts on Louisiana and the manipulations by the powers that be to keep the truth from the public and parents about the failing charters.

Pension “Overhaul” Declared Unconstitutional (Actually, pension pillage was declared unconstitutional.)

Ken Previti's avatarReclaim Reform

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) tried to cut pensions for those greedy, nasty, lazy, and overpaid nurses and other public employees. Demonizing public employees is day-to-day business for Rahm and the rich boys who finance him.

Rahm’s personal friend and venture fund investment cohort, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rahner (R), is still going to try to cut pensions on a state level.

Pension overhaul. Overhaul? Pillage and theft are more accurate terms.

Rauner EmanuelOf course the Illinois Supreme Court has unanimously declared that state employee pension cuts are unconstitutional. That doesn’t seem to matter to these two power mongering sociopaths. However, today yet another judge declared Rahm’s present attempt unconstitutional. Both sets, city and state, of highly paid legal firms will continue to receive big bucks to pursue whatever those two politicos pay them tax dollars to pursue.

What happened today?

“A Cook County judge has thrown out the Emanuel (D) administration’s…

Chevron officials kicked out of Unist’ot’en

This is flat out harassment by Chevron. How many times do they have to say “NO!” to them trespassing on their land? No means no means no.
They figure they will wear them down. Or find a vulnerability and exploit it.
Can you believe they brought bottled water in horrible plastic bottles…? Totally clueless on that environmental impact.

Yesterday Chevron, the company behind the Pacific Trails fracking pipeline, attempted to enter our unceded territories. They have no consent from our chiefs and our hereditary governance system, who are standing strong in their stance against all pipelines. Next to the Wedzin Kwah river, which is pure enough to drink from, Chevron presented us with an offering of bottled water and industrial tobacco.

No, you’re not paranoid…and you’re guilty until proven innocent…

You know, pre- 9/11/01, I would not have believed a story like this.  Making a profile of kindergartners? Are you freaking kidding me?!

Holy crap, the Defense dept has utterly gone berserk.

And yes, I believe this story.  I know they have gone waaaay over the edge of reason when they are surveilling innocent Americans.  And I mean watching their every freaking move!

So now they are afraid of kindergartners….little ones whose biggest worry is what are we having for lunch and when they get to finger paint.  Oh, wait…they don’t get that much time for art class…gotta make them do science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  Computer class is on a daily basis while art class is relegated to 30 min. a week.  If they’re lucky.

So your little one will be labeled a criminal while quite young, before they even know right from wrong.   And they perhaps might start out badly, but as they develop empathy, realize their bad behavior is not the way to be.  This is so wrong on so many levels.

Colleges nationwide are using ‘Campus Teams’ to give their students sexual threat assessments, there is a “Legal Compliance and Sexual Violence Prevention Training” being held in Boston this July 27, 28th.

“This training will address the critical intersection between compliance with federal laws to address sexual and intimate partner violence, and the role that threat assessment can play in effectively addressing these issues.”

—————————

Riiiiight.  And who is going to be the gatekeeper?  Federal agents who don’t know boundaries themselves??  They are going to be judge and jury when they don’t respect another’s privacy and violate the Fourth Amendment?

—————-

Whether or not this system can actually prevent crime remains unproven, but its ability to tarnish the record of individuals and place entire populations under preemptive suspicion is certain… and likely dangerous.

This is not about keeping our society free of crime.  This is about power and control.

And it gives them absolute power.  And we all know that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Enzyme Therapy as treatment for Cancer

It’s really incredible how much the calcified medical establishment goes against nutrition as a cure for disease…

As early as the 1900’s, they were dismissing intelligent theories of using enzymes for treatment of cancer.

Here’s a paper discussing that history and the successes these physicians have had treating cancer with enzymes and good food.

This goes along with the two folks whom have fought Stage IV cancer by eating organic food and juicing.  But Big Pharma and the medical profession cannot make the big buck$$$ by advocating good food and enzymes, so you will never, ever, ever hear it from the profit-driven medical establishment.  Criminal.

This is another good reason to throw out that dreadful machine, the microwave.  It destroys enzymes.  That is why you can sterilize stuff in there — it completely destroys all bacteria, and all life.  Not to mention exposing you to small doses of radiation over a lifetime.

Target stores objectify women with offensive T-Shirt

You know, humor can heal. It can help us cope with the trials of every day life.
And it can also destroy someone’s esteem.
Target is trying to play down the objectification of women by these T-Shirts that have “Trophy” across them–saying that they’re just joking  and people shouldn’t take them too seriously.  If I had a dime….

Dictionary

trophy

noun tro·phy \ˈtrō-fē\

: an object (such as a large cup or sculpture) that is given as a prize for winning a competition

: something that you keep or take to show that you were successful in hunting, war, etc.

(from: merriam-webster.com)

A trophy is something that doesn’t have a brain.  It doesn’t talk.  It sits on a shelf until you take it out to show it off….boasting of your ability to have such a trophy.

And then you put it back on a shelf again….

I think I’m going to be sick…Vulture capitalists swoop in on Greece…

First, I want to apologize to the Greeks for my fellow Americans who are now greedily taking your country apart…like a bunch of vultures.  Actually, that’s not fair to vultures because they actually do a service by cleaning up nature’s messes….

…these lizards masquerading as humans created the situation they are now gorging on…it makes me sick.  Celebrities like Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie want to portray themselves as progressives…worried about caged chickens and adopting orphans…while they participate in feasting on a democracy…give me a freaking break.  This is exactly why I don’t call myself a progressive anymore.  Too many phonies.

When Max mentions “paying pennies on the dollar…”  it made me angry.  This is exactly what happened with my debt — the vultures paid pennies for my debt and then wanted to get all of it.  When in court, I asked them how much they paid for the debt.  Before the creep could answer, the judge interjected and answered for him, saying that I did not have a right to that information.  This was the same judge that had a good chunk of the testimony off the record and had ordered my wages garnished while I was making $200 per month.
