New Peer Reviewed Study Shatters Myth of Substantial Equivalence and GMO Safety

From the National Press Club earlier this week, an independent scientist with four degrees from MIT, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai released the results of groundbreaking new research that proves the FDA’s current legal construct of “substantial equivalence”, which allows new GMO crops to be approved without proper safety tests, is seriously outdated, unscientific and a fraud when it comes to assessing the safety of GMO foods.

Utilizing modern tools, Dr. Ayyadurai’s team has conducted the first of its kind systems biology analysis of more than 11,597 published peer reviewed scientific papers and found that the process of genetic engineering creates significant cellular disruption in GMO plants.

According to the new research, published in the peer-reviewed journal Agricultural Sciences, the process of genetic engineering creates significant disruptions to basic cellular functions in Monsanto’s Roundup Ready GMO…

Rebecca’s letter to new #TeachForAmerica recruits #NN15

A brave post by someone who has been there. Everything we have been yelling about is now coming out in the open. Just like the Nazis, public education is being destroyed and replaced with corporate indoctrination…where the poor and disabled are seen as undesirables, just like in Nazi Germany…can eugenics be far behind…?

Dr. Julian Vasquez Heilig's avatarCloaking Inequity

I received this open letter unsolicited from a Teach For America alum. She was assigned to teach special education in California in 2013. After her letter, I have also included a clip at the end from the Network for Public Education’s new series Truth For America.

Dear SPED TFA Corps Members 2015,

Congratulations! You’ve survived TFA Summer Institute. Those broken down moments, sleepless nights, dealing with exhaustion, anxiety moments are finally over. No more lesson planning for another month or so. I know you may be anxious to start, especially to receive the class list.

Yet, I suspect there is a part of you that also feels like something just doesn’t feel right. Perhaps, its because you never really taught a class more than 10 students on your own without any supervision. Or maybe, it could be knowing that the summer session students did not have an IEP. Or maybe, you…

Unist’ot’en Call for Physical Support and Solidarity

Zig Zag's avatarWarrior Publications

Members of Unis'tot'en camp, November 2012. Members of Unis’tot’en camp, November 2012.

July 18, 2015
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Thanks to everyone who responded to our Action Camp and Chevron PTP  update. It is becoming clear that the situation here is moving toward an  escalation point.
Today at one o’clock a low flying helicopter flew over the ridge line  and crossed the river a couple kilomoters south of the bridge. It  followed a route that corresponds to the path of the proposed PTP  pipeline, then circled back and flew in a northern direction following  the river toward Houston. They flew low enough to take photos of  activity happening at bridge and our camp.

RCMP blocked from entering Unist’ot’en Camp

Now one has to wonder at Big Energy’s prodding the police to do their dirty work for them.

We have not signed any treaties permitting Canada to police our territories, yet the RCMP has been attempting to exercise illegal authority on our unceded lands. We have informed them of our protocols and Unist’ot’en law for entry.

One of the most offensive ads I have seen…. **edited

WTH??  So…now that they have made it seem that bdsm is mainstream with fifty s-h-a-d-e-s of g-r-e-y (spelling it out so I don’t get some search engines looking for that to come to my site)….I’ve been seeing this offensive ad depicting a woman with her face covered, ass up, in leather clothing appearing to be part of a bondage outfit.

Covering the face is a common practice of denying a person’s humanity.  Ask any good police officer about rapists who cover their victim’s faces.

This is disgusting and offensive to me and I can’t believe that I have to ask not to see that kind of crap on a mainstream website (this one was off of DailyKos, but it was also on Yahoo’s main site).

—————

**edited:  I removed the offensive photo because apparently the creeps who like depicting women in vulnerable, degrading, dehumanizing positions are showing up here.   The post I wrote is apparently lost on them…big surprise./snark

Why you need to fight for the environment…

Traverse City, Michigan.  The industry that poisoned the land and water is looong gone, but today, 2015, they are still cleaning up from environmental contamination during the years of 1955-87–dry cleaning until 1987.

Tetrachloroethylene (PCE)   (PERC) Note that it took only four hours to reach toxicity for rabbits, rats, and mice if I’m reading this correctly.  It’s also very interesting that this toxic chemical can cause hepatitis.

Trichloroethene (TCE)

1,2 dichloroethene (DCE) Note that the toxicity of rabbits, mice, and rat was also at 4 hours exposure.

Vinyl chloride  Note that toxicity can include death.  Ataxia is best described as walking like you’re drunk.  You run into walls, you lose your balance easily.  This is part of heavy metal poisoning and resulting leaky gut, as well.  **edited to add 3.17.17: being off balance may have a co-factor of gallstones or gallbladder inflammation, due to a toxic liver.

And so we have the neocons/neolibs fighting EPA once again for cracking down on polluters….whining they are being too haaaard on them.  I’d say they’re not hard enough.  They started cleanup in 1970…45 freaking years to clean up after themselves is more than lenient.  And they’re not even footing the bill…you, the public, are.  And the fish. And the wildlife. And the no-see-ums that make up a healthy soil….

Senate ESEA Amendment “Voice Vote” Update for July 15, 2015

Is it bad that I am so cynical anymore that I didn’t trust what I was hearing on the Senate floor yesterday….and here Mercedes Schneider proves me right….sigh…
I hope you all remember who voted to continue the destruction of public schools when it is clearly obvious that Bush’s No Child Left a Mind is not what it appeared to be.

deutsch29's avatardeutsch29: Mercedes Schneider's Blog

As the Senate debate on its version of the ESEA reauthorization, the Every Child Achieves Act of 2015, neared its end, there was a sort of “sudden death” round as more amendments were dealt with quickly and in the form of voice votes.

There were 21 of these voice votes on July 15, 2015.

There were also two amendments withdrawn, one of which was Senator Warren’s “disaggregated data” amendment. A quick word on that:

Senator Warren’s (D-MA) amendment 2120, “to amend section 1111(d) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 regarding the cross-tabulation of student data,” was withdrawn on July 15,2015, even as a beefier amendment, Senator Murphy’s (D-CT) amendment 2241 (which Warren co-sponsored) went up for a vote and was rejected 43-54. The 12-page text of Murphy’s SA 2241 reads more like No Child Left Behind (NCLB), with its detailed prescription for reporting on student test…

Nexen Energy spill south of Fort McMurray covers about 16,000 square metres

CBC News, July 16, 2015

One of the largest leaks in Alberta history has spilled about five million litres of emulsion from a Nexen Energy pipeline at the company’s Long Lake oilsands facility south of Fort McMurray.

The leak was discovered Wednesday afternoon.

Nexen said in a statement its emergency response plan has been activated and personnel were onsite. The leak has been stabilized, the company said.

The spill covered an area of about 16,000 square metres, mostly within the pipeline corridor, the company said. Emulsion is a mixture of bitumen, water and sand.

Do we need banks?

Maybe not.

Of course, this is 1970 Ireland.  Small towns where everyone knows everyone.  The problem here and now is that people don’t trust one another like they used to — some for good reason, some for not.  Gossip and reality shows are the markers of the day, instead of what is real.

Could we unlearn this?  Could we do like the Irish and stand behind what we say and trust others to do the same?  For some, their word is *still* worth its weight in gold.  They mean what they say.

Pope Francis apologizes to the indigenous

Continuing to amaze, Pope Francis apologized for the way Catholics treated the indigenous.  And let’s be honest, it was not just the Catholics, either.  The protestant churches also had their hand in coercive conversion of people. Bibles or bullets. People are led to their own spiritual path by God and no one has a right to interfere with that.  There is no one-size-fits-all with religion.  And all the bloodshed over religion throughout history….all mocking “thou shall not murder…” and the greed “thou shall not covet another’s possessions…”  nor worship idols (money, gold)….
