Chicago Teachers Under Fire

Ken Previtti has this up on the bullying of Chicago Teachers….a modern day twist of McCarthyism, where if you don’t tow the line, you’re blacklisted via losing certification.

Democracy, meet dictatorship.

This is unconscionable.    The teachers refuse to subject the kids to it. The parents don’t want it. And the kids certainly don’t benefit from it.  As Ken states, the only people that benefit are the education profiteer$ who sell the test prep, the tests, scoring the tests, and anything else they can think of to profit.

Are the parents not taxpayers? Are the teachers not taxpayers? And the public taxpayer who does not want CCSS?  Again I ask, if the taxpayers don’t want this…then why are their wishes being ignored?

Meanwhile, in Indiana, they are going to push online learning to make up for all the snow days we had this winter….nice way to shoehorn the kids into online learning…

…and get rid of teachers altogether.

Back

Okay, back from a bout of the flu.  Gah, it’s been at least six years and probably ten years since I’ve had the flu.  Seriously. The last time I felt this bad, I had it in the lungs (probably walking pneumonia) and it was one of the times I woke up gasping for breath.

Mercury interferes with your immune system so much that even though we know we are exposed to viruses, we don’t “get sick”.

The theory is that the virus is there, but the immune system cannot muster the usual attack response that shows up as vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, fever, headache.  I think it’s another wonderful testament that my immune system is healing and starting to respond to viruses.  I don’t know if this particular virus was dormant…but I’m kind of leaning that way because it usually takes three days to incubate before symptoms show up…at least that was how it was with my kids and I when they were young.  With this flu, I was only in the public the day before, which would have been the best time to be exposed.  My sis could have brought the virus home, I suppose, but nobody else got sick.

Anyway, I’m actually happy that I had the flu….and I lived to tell about it!  I should alert the CDC.  /just a little snarky

I think the fact that I had a quick recovery is testament to eating good organic non-gluten food….the best medicine, along with proper herbs (dandelion and rose hips tea).

Sleazebag Terry Richardson **updated

I came across the name Terry Richardson as a sleazebag photographer…and decided to look him up to see what the fuss was about.  What I found was sickening, to say the least.

Warning, the links here and here are graphic, so if that bothers you, don’t click.  Briefly, this photographer has done some creepy acts, including alleged rape, by the models he was supposed to be shooting.  And the alleged abuse is known to the industry….so why are they allowing it…?  Because they use sex to sell the products…?

As someone whom has been sexually harassed and abused, I take this very personally.  I know his type of predator and how they operate….so it’s not hard to believe he did these actions because the predators always work in the same way–gain trust, manipulate, use power over, and then abuse them while accusing them of “wanting it.”

Excuse me, I need to go throw up…

**updated with more on this creep here.

Victory for Saucedo teachers

Woot! Teachers taking back their classrooms!   The tactics of intimidation by Barbara Byrd-Bennett did not work.

…and the teachers, bless their hearts, still taught a lesson in civil disobedience and nonviolence, a la Ghandi and Rosa Parks.

Makes me smile. 🙂

Supporting teachers, supporting public schools

Bill de Blasio, the mayor, and Gov. Cuomo were at what could be described as dueling rallies.

Eva Moskowitz, the queen of charters with Success Academy, claims their rally was not meant to compete with Mayor de Blasio’s.  Um-hmmm…

You might remember Success Academy with this post.

Meanwhile, support came far away for the Saucedo teachers in Chicago…from the big ole’ state of Texas.

Ryan continues war on poor

Paul Ryan has not been swayed from his austerity measures, as he still advocates for the rich while seeking to starve people…

I started to watch a link to a Newseum piece hosted by Brian Williams, but five minutes of listening to Paul Ryan and I couldn’t stand any more.  Him being a toadie of Kochs and Peterson just turns my stomach.

More from Mother Jones here.

I followed the link to Paul Ryan’s False Advertising Photo Op at a soup kitchen.  What an opportunist.

It seems that the answer to poverty is pretty basic:  jobs with livable wages; affordable housing; healthcare.  That’s it.  With those factors, you can’t lose, because those are the three factors that keep people off of food stamps, off the streets, and free of financial disaster when an illness hits.

My previous post on Ryan here.

More on Tyendinaga Mohawks blockade

Here’s another article on the blockade drawing attention to the missing and murdered indigenous women.

The federal government has already insisted that it is willing to commit $25 million to the National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains. While this is a start, the mandate is not specific to why First Nations women are at a higher risk of violence due to historical and socio-economic factors.

~~~~~
It seems lost on the Harper government that these women are being targeted because they are First Nations women…why?
And why have most of them occurred in the last 15 years?  A serial killer undetected?
Bullying Chicago Teachers, via Byrd-Bennett
Fred Klonsky has this up on the heavy handed Barbara Byrd-Bennett.
We must plan for the event that some teachers will be insubordinate and refuse to administer the test.  If the teacher regularly assigned to the classroom has refused that assignment, another teacher or an administrator should be assigned to administer the test.  The teacher who has refused the assignment should be given the option of going home without pay on all testing days or supervising the students who are not taking the test in silent reading activities.  If there are special concerns about a teacher’s conduct, principals should immediately consult with their Talent Generalist at 773-535-2800.
~~~~~~

This is just unreal.  This reads like a handbook for Nazi Germany and Hitler.  What’s next…the police called in to administer the tests?!
