GM Wheat found in Oregon

In case you didn’t click on the link for yet another farm crop contaminated with GMO’s….

I just want to know how many times Monsanto can get away with this before somebody finally lays down the law?

What’s to say that they aren’t doing this in other countries…allegedly releasing GMO seed via unsuspecting farmers who plant the seed, not knowing it’s GMO, and by the time the discovery is made…well, too late…it’s already been released into the environment??

Bopping around on the web, I found this article about products that were thought to be GMO free, but alas…Sweden was, by other articles I read, proactive and was against GMO’s.  So….where did this come from?  I can’t say that I know enough about the timeline with Sweden, but is certainly raises questions.  What is worrisome is how Monsanto has worn down the resistance to GMO’s, if this is any indication.

Here’s a good article on what countries have banned GMO’s.  Note that even though Japan banned GMO products, it *still* got contamination…by importing Canadian GM canola….stunning…absolutely stunning.  Alarms should be going off all over at this news.  Also, the article mentions the India farmers’ suicides…and the water thing.  Why doesn’t anyone bring up that the cotton plants were much more thirsty than the heirloom cotton?  That seems to escape everyone’s notice–we can’t afford to use more of our precious water resources for frankencrops that require more water to survive.

Note also the refusal of a tuna shipment to Greece when it was tested positive for GM.  It had  been packed in genetically modified soybean oil!  So, evidently, one doesn’t have to consume GMO’s to be altered by it–one only has to touch it.  Which brings more worries about breathing in GM corn pollen.  As I have said in previous blogs, my allergies during the summer always get worse after corn pollen has started to enter the atmosphere.  And with my previous post on how GM enters the DNA of gut flora….just scares the crap out of me–even carefully trying to avoid GM food, I could still end up more contaminated.  I say more contaminated because I ate GM food before I was aware of it–as most Americans who are unaware of eating GM food.

Monsanto wins court case

This is just mind numbing…do courts ever do their own research about stuff they rule on?  Or do they just accept what is force-fed them by agricultural bullies like Monsanto??

Well, with the ruling, I think we have the answer to that.  Anyone who does their homework and looks up genetically modified organisms will have had all the evidence against its continued use.  How many crops does this monster have to damage and destroy before courts and politicians wake up?!

Monsanto promises not to sue farmers….seriously?

The Powerful Seed

The organic farmers group posted a link to this article.  The humble seed contains the beginnings of life.  You could even say that the seed rules the world….

Below this article was a link to Vandana Shiva’s “Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in the Forest”.  Bless her for her dedication to sustainability.

From that article, I was intrigued about the link for Ecuador recognizing the rights of nature in its Constitution…Wow……somebody who “gets it”.  See, we humans want to think that we are so superior that we are more valuable than all other life forms.  Worse than that, we have fooled ourselves into thinking that we are independent…that we could actually survive without them.  We pollute the air, water, and soil without regard that it will harm nature.  We survive in a circle…truly, what goes around comes around…and the balance of life–when we take something, we must give something of equal value in return…this simple rule is ignored.

Warrior princesses

My heroes.

They put into words what a celiac goes through with the *cough* medical profession….clueless doctors who charge $$ to tell you that it’s all in your head.

I like the one who told the patient she couldn’t feel pain in the gut…say what??

I’d like to see the Wisconsin Tea Party legislators tangle with these gals. Pass the popcorn. (Ooh, wait, what was I thinking??…Um, pass the gluten free snack. 🙂  Still not used to the idea of not having some things…<sigh>   )

The right to choose your food

I can’t wrap my brain around this.

I’m just stunned at the thought that someone could try to label organic food as “junk food”.  As the article points out, this would eliminate the right to choose organic, free range eggs, or gluten-free bread for Celiacs…it’s just mindboggling the ignorance and outright endangerment.  So…I suppose if someone is Celiac and buys food they are not supposed to have in order to have something to eat…if their gut disintegrates from inflammation and they either end up in the hospital for surgically fixing the problem, or dead from a ruptured abdomen.

I really love the fact that the Tea Party members conveniently ignore that people on food stamps and other welfare were once taxpayers that paid into the system.  Same with Social Security and Medicare.

Finding good food

This website makes it easier in finding organic and sustainable farms.  However, I would caution you that just because someone claims to be organic doesn’t necessarily mean they have their hearts in it.  I know of at least one farm listed here that they were burning asphalt roof tiles, along with plastics and other stuff that you shouldn’t…a half – block away from the organic fields.  They also sprayed weedkiller on gravel that was next to the growing field.  Yep.  That’s not something someone casually shopping would know….so it helps to know the folks you’re dealing with or someone who works for them, but this website is a good start.

I’ve tried to go online to look for local free range egg farmers, but came up empty.  There was one website that was called “farmer’s friend, but there was nothing even in Allen County (FW), where I knew they had free range eggs….<sigh>…it doesn’t do one a whole lot of good if you’re not going to put information on the website for customers.

Hope this helps anyone looking for locally grown food.

Meniere’s connection to heavy metal poisoning

I came across this book that links meniere’s disease with heavy metal poisoning.   It’s a known fact among us in the support group that heavy metal poisoning affects all your senses–sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell.  Ringing in the ears is common, as are earaches.  I have had both along with dminished hearing at times (although is pretty good now–just rare occasions where I’m affected.)  With the recent migraine, the left side of my face swelled, and it seem to be affected my ear as well.  I turned over in bed to a wave of dizziness–which is also a marker of heavy metal poisoning.  The swelling went down a day after the migraine, and the dizziness went, too.  It’s just fascinating how this poison affects one’s body.

This site mentions low zinc as a factor.  Since heavy metal poisoning interferes with zinc absorption, it goes that a person would have low zinc.  Since folks are more able to absorb liquid zinc, I would recommend it.  I personally take Now Brand’s Zinc Glycinate.  And no, I don’t get paid to say that, nor do I have an investment in their company.   The site also mentions low B12 (methylcobalamin is best because it’s the active form of B12), and a gluten free diet as a factor.  Spot on–these are all connected to heavy metal poisoning.  I don’t know about the homeopathic remedies being recommended—I personally haven’t had much luck with them.

I thought I’d pass this along for the info.

Monsanto, the Godfather…

…of destruction to human beings and the environment…

And President Obama signs the Monsanto Protection Act.  WTH?

From the Union of Concerned Scientists link:

In 2008—the last year a federal Farm Bill was completed—the company reported a whopping $8.8 million in lobbying expenditures (see table below) intended to influence decisions in Congress, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and other federal agencies.

~~~~~~~~~
$8 million. Just for lobbying, folks….that’s not counting the money spent on persecuting farmers. It was common for farmers to keep seeds to plant crops with–nothing was wrong with that….until Monsanto made it illegal…and one has to ask why?  Why are they allowed to persecute farmers for saving seed?  In some cases, such as Percy Schmeiser, a farmer doesn’t even have to have purchased the poisonous seeds….
Don’t forget the Hoosier farmer fighting this Goliath in the Supreme Court.
One of the articles I passed over with my search made a statement that Monsanto’s seeds are popular with farmers…perhaps that is what the problem is…and where the solution lies…NOT purchasing seeds from Monsanto.  I think it is going to take a helluva boycott on the part of the farmers to bring this giant to its knees.  It’s obvious by now that the gov’t is not going to do the right thing and regulate this poisonous agriculture or the corporation responsible for it.  And Monsanto is doing its best to destroy the family farm.
What a fight on our hands….
Sea Otter
My nature calendar has the Sea Otter for this month’s animal.  They are just too, too cute.
The article mentions that they are threatened by pollution.  Here’s the National Geographic page on them–explaining in a little more detail.
~~A side note~ they had the link to the manatee/sea lion deaths on the National Geographic page, so I thought I’d post it, too.  The poor manatees have been endangered for awhile–I used to vacation in the Sarasota, Florida, area, many years ago, and it was a problem for the manatees to get hit by boats, killing them or injuring them severely.
What this article doesn’t explain is how the cat feces is making its way to the oceans…is it the flushable kitty litter that enters the waterways?  Is it trash that contains kitty litter being dumped in the oceans?  It would be easier to address the problem if we knew the cause and made people aware of it.
I also think it is much, much more than the kitty litter.  The mercury/heavy metal poisoning is a problem, too.  And one has to consider that if they are finding prescription drugs in our water supply, it is likely to have made it to the oceans, as well.  According to this, they have made it into the other bodies of water. More here.
Here’s a more up to date article on marine pollution.  Would one say that selfish shellfishers are troublemakers? (sorry couldn’t resist).
As the article states, the sea otters help the kelp forests by controlling the feeding populations.  Without kelp, we humans would be in serious trouble as kelp is a natural source of iodine and other minerals.  The Native Americans would make trips to the oceans (if they were not along the coastline) to gather the seaweed because they knew of its value.  Our thyroids don’t function without iodine.
(And that picture is just gorgeous, too)
Gluten and dementia
I’ve touched on this previously, but wanted to put out the links I’ve found about the connection between Celiac and dementia.  This really hits home because of my Mom’s suffering, which I am more and more positive comes from undiagnosed Celiac.
This is an interesting link about how someone might have Celiac, but the symptoms are neurological, not in the gut.
From the site:
British clinician, Dr. Maios Hadjivassiliou, a world renown authority on gluten, reported in The Lancet that gluten sensitivity can be at times exclusively a neurological disease.2 In other words, people suffering from gluten intolerance can have absolutely no digestive symptoms but will have issues with brain dysfunction.
~~~~~~~~

This is my Mom, in a nutshell.

Here’s another short and sweet site with a connection. Note that it says that the Celiac diet only helped one patient.  I would question that because the sample is too small and it doesn’t state what exactly the person was eating.  I have actually seen sites and cookbooks that claim to gluten free and they had gluten in the recipes.  And I would also want to know if the diet contained GMO food, which is also suspect at causing Celiac.

Another site here. Note that they say they saw a reversal of symptoms…nothing short of miraculous!

They often talk about how our compromised gut allows Candida (yeast) to get waaaay out of control, which also affects brain function.  They talk about it here on celiac.com and a post here on the NY Times site –-these are very good descriptions on what we go through–it’s also a good description of heavy metal poisoning sufferers. Note IrishHeart’s description of holding her husband’s sleeves when they went out–that shyness/autistic-like symptom.  Been there, done that…still have *those* days…

Another neurological affliction linked to Celiac is Ataxia–your balance is off and you look like you’re drunk (walking sideways)  when you walk.  People have been mistakenly diagnosed with multiple schlerosis when their symptoms were from Celiac disease.

Remember the teacher who wanted to carry a gun in school?  Remember the constant movement of her eyes?

From the site:

About 80% have problems with their eyes, in which their eyes move involuntarily back and forth.

~~~~~~~
Now look again at that video here. I would say she’s probably a Celiac and has heavy metal poisoning.  (That will be $100 for a diagnosis. :p )
Once again, I am in awe of our miraculous bodies and how the body will constantly try to fix itself….if only given the proper tools of organic (gluten free) diet, clean air, clean water, and exercise….
