Granny Miller has a post up on the curious phenomenon of preppers.
I am positively revolted by the survivalist perception and belief that somehow there will not be enough food, water, clothing, shelter and goodness and humanity to go around when “the collapse” comes.
…wisdom from the elders….
( TEOTWAWKI = The end of the world as we know it. TSHTF= the sh*t hits the fan.)
...Congress cuts unemployment benefits. I disagree with the writer’s assertion that the Democrats “wanted to continue” unemployment benefits. Are you kidding me? These are the same people going along with Third Way mentality that wants to end New Deal social programs….
…meanwhile, they budgeted $500 Billion for the defense budget….a budget that should be reigned in, because they have too many contractors, too much waste, (want to find money to support the jobless, give food to the hungry, and find homes for the homeless? $430 MILLION in cutting waste is a place to start) and an NSA that is running amok.
There is just something very, very wrong when a country spends more money to kill people than save them.
You might remember this post with a quote that says the words “third way”. Not long after I posted it, Ed on the Ed Show (MSNBC) mentioned the Third Way. I can’t remember exactly what he said, but it was negative and the segment intrigued me.
I’ve just now gotten around to doing a bit of research on Third Way. Whew…do you smell a rat?? Me, too.
Red flags are going off with Elizabeth Warren being attacked by supposed Democrats for…speaking out against selling us out to the 1% by cutting Social Security and other social programs….calling them “populist”. Um-hmmm…that and the word “entitlement” are key words for the “I’ve-got-mine-screw-you” crowd.
Now, getting back to the previous post with Hillary Clinton’s religious leader saying those words: third way…and how they wanted to do away with New Deal programs:
It emerged, he [Reverend Don Jones] says, as a third way, a reaction against both separatist fundamentalism and the New Deal’s labor-based liberalism.

Social Security. Public Schools. Medicaid. Medicare. Public employees like fire fighters, police. Public Libraries. A decent living wage.
I know that it’s hard to believe they want to destroy it all, but all signs are pointing towards that very end.
Please, please run for President, Elizabeth. Please!! I’ll go knocking on doors…whatever needs done to help get you votes. Hillary Clinton is nothing but a Goldwater Girl doing the dirty work of the bankers, warmongers, education profiteers, Big Oil, Monsanto, and no doubt countless other organizations that don’t give a crap about Americans or America, the poor, the elderly, the children, the environment, nor the middle class.
Diane Ravitch has a blog up on a homeless girl, Dasani, and the heartless comment about her living conditions by Michael Bloomberg, as self-righteous as they come.
What a smug, heartless little turd.
Jesus has said one can only have one Master–money or God.
Obviously, Bloomberg chose money.
I read stories like this and feel such despair….
**edited to add: There’s quite a discussion going on at Diane’s blog, and I thought I’d explain my thoughts. Here’s a comment I left at Diane’s:
Wow, I must have struck a chord. I personally am poor and homeless as I write this. I am nothing like what Bloomberg, et al, would like to characterize the poor as– I’m college educated, once lived an upper middle class lifestyle. Being poor has taught me so much–that I could have and should have done so much more when I was wealthy. If I had money again, I would choose driving a Ford over a Mercedes, and give that difference to the poor.
Okay, so this is a rough time of year if one is poor…and it is especially hard for children.
I am more keenly aware of that and try to counteract it by asking kids what kind of gifts they could give without it costing money…
One said that they could cook a meal for someone (provided they furnished their own ingredients). Another said you could pick up trash for someone. I suggested that they could shovel snow for someone in their neighborhood–perhaps an elderly person, as a gift.
I asked if they knew about “Pay It Forward”…they did. We talked about the people paying it forward for customers at fast food restaurants. I mentioned the movie, but warned them that the movie had a sad ending…half wanted to know what happened and the other half didn’t want me to tell.
I related a story I had read once where a couple had purchased a brand new car. It was their pride and joy and they took good care of it over the years. The husband died, however, and as the lady got older, the car was too much for her to care for it. One night, a couple of boys from the neighborhood waited until the older lady went to bed, and then they washed the car and cleaned it all up until it gleamed. The boys continued to do this over the years. The lady didn’t know who her little car angels were, but she was grateful.
I told the kids they could wash a car as a gift, too. (Of course, this would have to wait until better weather.)
And as I sit here and type, I can think of so many everyday things that could be gifts that don’t cost a thing.
I think it’s important for the poor not to feel they have nothing to contribute…that they can give gifts, too, that are just as appreciated as something bought in a store.
Look at this segment on ABC News on the ruling that what the NSA is doing is Unconstitutional.
Just the wording alone is alarmist:
CIA Spy Ruling Could Be a Major Setback for the War on Terror
(sorry for the large type)
~~~~~~~~
The segment states that this is a victory for Edward Snowden. (!)
Wow. Just wow. Journalists…er, um, people who get a paycheck pretending to be journalists…who didn’t do their job in the first place, making it imperative for someone else–in this case Edward Snowden–to do what they should have been doing are putting this as a victory for him.
Instead, they should be saying this is a victory for our democracy.
This is a victory for upholding our Constitution.
They frame it as a blow to the war on terror when, as the judge states, there is no evidence that this has saved lives.
And eavesdropping on friendly countries…? How is that helping the war on terror? Is Angela Merkel a terrorist?
Ahead of elections next year, politicians of all stripes are questioning the role of such firms, accused of putting profits first with practices like letting students decide when they have learned enough and keeping no record of their grades.
~~~~~~
Letting students decide when they’ve learned enough?? Seriously?? They should be hanging their heads in shame for their irresponsibility. I would have quit my sophomore year in high school if it would have been allowed…things were not going well and it would have been easier to give in. This is especially true for the young–who don’t have enough experience to determine what is best for them. For me, I will always regret that I didn’t take the college prep courses in high school. I could not see that my circumstances might change in the future and I would be able to go to college. Allowing these young folks to decide when they’ve learned enough is criminal, in my view.
And then there’s the unintended consequence:
Sweden replaced one of the world’s most tightly regulated school systems with one of the most deregulated, leading to scandals like the 2011 case of the convicted paedophile who set up several schools quite legally.
~~~~~~
I have no words.
What I don’t understand is near the end of the article, they say they don’t want to go back to the old way, which left parents with no choice. WTH? Given the choice between the new way and the old….I personally would take the old. For-profit schools are not schools…they are centers for making kids look busy with a poor imitation of knowledge.
I found this while looking up farmers for the previous blog. I thought it was a great historical piece. He died in 1988….seems like yesterday, but now 25 years past.
Now the only ones with power are Big Ag factory farms. Why is it that we have no enforcement of antitrust laws?? Can someone tell me?
