Eat a damn cup cake

I found this blog on the women and weight issue.  She points out that the same magazines that criticize women for being too skinny also turn around and criticize them for being too *cough* fat.  It is pathological.

She does a great job of listing the statistics of women and how  the media distorts its portrayal of women.

I love the line:  Eat a damn cup cake!

She also advocates, as I do, eating a healthy diet and not sitting on the couch all day.  It’s all about balance.

I will be forever grateful that I started doing aerobics after my first child was born.  I was active as a kid, but slacked off when I became  a teenager–sports were considered unladylike in my hometown–you were a lesbian if you participated in sports (yes, they were that backward)….and people who exercised regularly were considered “health nuts” .  Geez-o-pete.

But I do believe those years of exercising helped with the health issues I’m dealing with now—I think I would have been much, much worse off from the effects of slowly being poisoned if I had not been as healthy to begin with.

And I’ve discovered that I’m much more likely to exercise when it’s something that is active and sports-like.  I do like aerobics, but even they can become routine and boring….I’m more likely to want to do something like playing in the snow or riding a bike or hiking a trail…and on…it’s something that I think is probably more beneficial not only to the body but to the spirit, as well.  Gotta have that.

Fat?

Seriously…this cheerleader is considered “pudgy”…?

And the question “why are women so mean” is soooo far out of line it’s unbelievable.  Men can be just as cruel.  It may be a little more subtle, but still impacts his partner.

Anyway, it is really disgusting to see how Hollywood and the media  have demanded women become anorexic in order to be considered sexy and desirable.  It is pathological and unhealthy.  (it’s also personal as my ex was constantly on me about my weight.  I was 125 pounds–and small–and he was constantly telling me that I “better not get fat”.  It was a control thing with him.)

I’m not ashamed of being a woman. Of having curves.  The only time I feel bad about that is when those curves are somehow seen as “public property” that can be groped or commented on…like I’m not even a human being….

I think we lost one

A poster on the mercury poisoning support group had posted an alarming letter–s/he was talking about being depressed and not seeing beyond the depression fog that goes with this horrible poison’s effects.

That was April 6th. I first replied that what the poster was experiencing was typical of heavy metal poisoning and that most of us have been *there*.  I begged her/him not to give up.

When the poster did not reply to any of us (several of us replied trying to help the poster see beyond the immediate feelings of despair), I tried again and asked the poster to let us know that s/he was okay.

No reply.  No response at all.  I’m afraid that this horrible poison has taken another life. Shit.

(I’m hoping that they’re still there, but not able to post at this time.)

Meniere’s connection to heavy metal poisoning

I came across this book that links meniere’s disease with heavy metal poisoning.   It’s a known fact among us in the support group that heavy metal poisoning affects all your senses–sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell.  Ringing in the ears is common, as are earaches.  I have had both along with dminished hearing at times (although is pretty good now–just rare occasions where I’m affected.)  With the recent migraine, the left side of my face swelled, and it seem to be affected my ear as well.  I turned over in bed to a wave of dizziness–which is also a marker of heavy metal poisoning.  The swelling went down a day after the migraine, and the dizziness went, too.  It’s just fascinating how this poison affects one’s body.

This site mentions low zinc as a factor.  Since heavy metal poisoning interferes with zinc absorption, it goes that a person would have low zinc.  Since folks are more able to absorb liquid zinc, I would recommend it.  I personally take Now Brand’s Zinc Glycinate.  And no, I don’t get paid to say that, nor do I have an investment in their company.   The site also mentions low B12 (methylcobalamin is best because it’s the active form of B12), and a gluten free diet as a factor.  Spot on–these are all connected to heavy metal poisoning.  I don’t know about the homeopathic remedies being recommended—I personally haven’t had much luck with them.

I thought I’d pass this along for the info.

Tell me it isn’t so…

Daily Mail has this story up on a new fad.  It states that it contains natural ingredients of seaweed and prickly pear to lose weight.

First, I hope that this story is untrue.

Secondly, seaweed (most likely kelp) can be beneficial, as it has been known for centuries by the Native Americans for the benefits. However, with the modern pollution of our oceans, it is likely to be contaminated unless they are carefully cultivated in less polluted waters, such as Norwegian kelp.

Thirdly, kelp does contain iodine, which is beneficial to the thyroid but can really mess up your thyroid and immune system if too high a dose is used.  Losing 3-5 pounds in a week tells me that this is overdosing and will wreck the thyroid and adrenal glands.  Believe me, as someone who is trying to heal those two important glands, you do not want to mess with them.

Lastly, if one sees a dramatic difference after taking kelp, then I would suggest testing the thyroid and adrenals for the person having low thyroid.  It is one of the most overlooked deficiencies in this toxic environment today.

Like anything, too much of a good thing can cause as many problems as being deficient in them.

Be well, my friends.

A celiac story

(Taking time out for a quick post.  Mom is doing better at the moment….but not out of the woods yet)

I asked permission to post this story of the recovery of a GAPS support group member:

Hi you guys
I wanted to encourage all newbies. My son age 4/12 was non verbal when we started this diet. He also had no social skills and he didn’t respond to his name

We have been on the diet for two years now. It has been a rough road to say the least. Not only was he nonverbal he also had extreme behavioral problems. Taking out high candida foods, like fruit, nuts and honey helped tremendously. We also have a Laura V from the group Gaps practitioner and Naturopath ND helping us.

Eli had a wonderful day at the park yesterday. My heart was overwhelmed with joy watching him play with other kids. He saw a little guy his age. He walked over to him and asked if he wanted to play. The other kiddo said yes. They played on the swing, they played tag and ran around. The other kid saw a friend he knew at the park. The friend also played with Eli. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Not to long Eli would shy away from kids. He use to act so strange around them. Perhaps because he couldn’t speak

He is also talking using sentences, asking questions and making comments on things that he hears and sees. We thought we would never see this happen

To all newbies stay the course. This diet can be stressful at times but the benefits of healing is so worth it. Dr NCM talks about adding cherries on top if you don’t see healing within a year or so. We had to get additional help. In addition to the diet. Eli is on homeopathic remedies to address his faulty detox system, his over exposure to antibiotics and his chronic gut issues due to the meds that was given to him as a baby. My doc is in the process of becoming gaps certified. I will post his info as soon as that happens

Hugs
Reg

I can’t add anything to this.  It’s just absolutely stunning how diet can impact one so profoundly.  God Bless Regina for being the kind of Mom who acts on her intuition and asks questions until she finds the answer.

Making free speech illegal

…is what the Indiana Senate is trying to do with trying to make it illegal for animal rights activists to publish photos of animal abuse.

Story here.

People have a right to know if  farms are abusing animals.  And journalists have every right to publish that information without going through the police.  This is outrageous.

You will note that Rose Acre Farms complained about the bad publicity they received after video of their operations was made public.  Story here of the abuse. Well, of course they don’t like activists who photograph the abuse–it’s not the abuse that bothers them–it’s the bad publicity!  And if they can keep the photos from reaching the public, who refuse to buy their eggs, well then…

Once again, folks, know where your food comes from–I buy Amish chicken that is raised cage free, without hormones or antibiotics. Same with the eggs, which are locally produced.  And humbly thank the chickens for their sacrifice.
