Stephen King on the one-percenters

Hilarious.  And really, not too far from the truth-that’s the scary part.

From the article, it appears that King was stating that Mitt Romney had pulled himself up by his bootstraps. Perhaps I’m reading it wrong, but that’s the way that it reads to me.  Romney was never poor, as his father, George Romney, made $$$ by cheating the poor while he was head of HUD.  (See reference to Barlett and Steele’s investigative reporting on the subject.Interestingly, a quick scan doesn’t mention George Romney’s having properties deeded in his name after the poor abandoned the properties.)  Romney was born rich and couldn’t care less about the poor.

….and Mitt would like to abolish HUD altogether.  Great.  Toss more folks into the streets.  A glaring omission in the article below is the fact that HUD provides monies to Housing Authorities for them to provide decent housing to folks who cannot afford to pay the high rents nor could they afford mortgages.

Detroit, Rock City

…well, not *that* kind of “rock”, but rather, rocking the boat...

God bless them for standing up to the takeover of our education system by for-profit financiers.

I do worry about them, however, having Hare Krishna’s teaching them anything…one came out of nowhere and grabbed my coat lapel to pin a flower on it while I walked through O’Hare Airport in the 70s…the memory of that and their brainwashing techniques worries me that these young kids will be pulled into something they’re not experienced enough to make an informed decision…like so many were during the 70s.

 

ALEC, jobs, and decent pay

Center for Media and Democracy has posted this article on the next target of ALEC:  fair wages, jobs, and workers compensation.

The article notes ALEC’s support of the for-profit prison industry– link here.  I have to wonder if Dick Cheney is in on this….and whatever happened to that indictment…?  If you read the entire article, Scott Walker is knee deep in this–sponsoring bills that required inmates to serve their entire sentences, regardless of good behavior or counseling.

From the link on allowing employers’ access to medical records:

Section 3. Employers’ shall be allowed access to all relevant medical information,
without the express authorization or consent, of the employee in all cases in which an
employee files a claim under employer provided workers’ compensation insurance or any
other employer provided entitlement . The insurance carriers or administrator shall
provide and discuss relevant documents of the claim file that shall affect the employer’s
premium with the employer, and shall supply copies of the documents that affect the
premium.

(Italics mine)

Big Brother, anyone?  Good Grief.  An employer could use this personal information in any number of ways to discredit an employee.

On to other matters–

ALEC is also trying to interfere with the EPA’s regulation of coal ash, a serious health hazard.  I followed the CNN link about the devastating effects on homeowners’s health and exposure to Uranium, which is believed to be coming from the coal ash ponds.  These unfortunate individuals have suffered terribly, while their houses are secretly bought and the evidence (house) is destroyed.

Unbelievable.

Lastly,  here’s a story on the 7.5 million, er, 200,000 tab on the damage done by the protestors in the Wisconsin uprising…while ignoring the damage done by the staff.  I think they ought to send the bill to Scott Walker and his ALEC supporters, whom, it would seem, have plenty of money to throw around…

Autism and the Amish

I discovered a book among my mother’s things about Amish methods of healing.  They are a culture that pretty much wants to be left alone, so they seek natural remedies to cure ailments, only using medical doctors when absolutely necessary, such as broken bones.

While reading the book, I came upon the tidbit that they don’t value vaccination.  I was curious about this, and found this blog on their very low autism rates.  It’s absolutely stunning that their rates are 1 in 10,000, while the general population has climbed with the pressure of a vaccinated society.  They also employ mostly organic methods of growing food. Here’s another blog on the Amish.

According to this article, the rate of autism for the general population is 60 in 10,000.  Sixty!  And it’s rather telling that so many parents are home-schooling their children to avoid having them vaccinated…if what this article states is true.

…and the CDC and medical profession continue to ignore the overwhelming evidence…

 

Progress

Now that the chaos of last week is behind me (she says with hesitation…)

I’ve caught cold from my grandniece, who decided to “share the love” 😉

She asked for a drink from my cup, and while she took a sip, it occurred to me that she possibly has a cold because she was sneezing earlier…I asked her mother, who confirmed my suspicion.  Oh, well…

Anyway, it’s kind of a bittersweet thing–

I haven’t had a full-blown cold in 4-5 years.  This is significant in mercury poisoned folks–it’s a phenomenon among us.  Dr. Cutler says that most really sick individuals DON”T get colds, but start to get them after getting so much of the mercury out.  He theorizes that when we’re really loaded down with mercury, our bodies are to inhospitable for even colds to grab hold–but as we chelate the mercury out, our bodies become more  hospitable to anything that comes along.  I think it’s also just our messed up immune systems not able to respond in the “normal” way to whatever comes along.  I started sneezing about two years ago–but only twice or so.   This was the case usually before I got a migraine…so I’m wondering about the significance of that.

So, I’m actually happy that I have to blow my nose and sneeze and generally feel like crap.  It’s a good sign 🙂

 

Scenes from small towns…

I’m driving along a two-lane highway along the country to the town my sister is in…these are the scenes along the way:

…a house standing alone surrounded by farm fields now has weeds growing up around it.  It appears to have been abandoned.

…an old brick farm house with a row of trees lining the drive now has a “for sale” sign out front.  It used to have fresh produce and a ‘fresh eggs’ sign out front.

…I pass by another farm house where an Amish father is walking out from the house to the barn.  Following him are three young ones… lined up just like ducks following their mother.

…wide open fields with farmers plowing, dust blowing huge clouds into the skies.  It’s hard to describe the serenity of the scene.  No noise.  Nothing but space to expand.  Nothing but you and your thoughts.

…A serene lake with Canadian geese and ducks paddling along…one of the geese comes towards me as I stand out on a pier.  Geese never do that, and he came just close enough to eyeball me, but no closer.  I wonder if someone has been feeding them?  Meanwhile, a crane flies overhead…and redwing blackbirds sing their song from nearby reeds.

…a young lady who cuts and styles the nursing home resident’s hair speaks of family who have taken in family members–grandkids, sons/daughters, and their friends because of the times we live in–she herself works four jobs.  She has the full time job of cutting hair, but also manages a weekly newspaper, and works a retail job, too.  I forget what the fourth one is.  She has a five month old son, and an ex who doesn’t appear to be helping much.  She’s a sweet person who is very caring towards the residents who should be able to stay home with her son, but doesn’t get that luxury.

…seen at an antique shop:  a refrigerator magnet with “I’ll believe corporations are people when the State of Texas executes one.”  Heh.
