The Kankakee Marsh was once called the “Everglades of the North”. Indiana had a thriving swampland that served the migration of the bird population.

Beaver Lake was a part of the swamp.

The reasons Beaver Lake was drained are as corrupt and greedy and environmentally destructive as they come.

After reading this article, I realized “Draining the swamp” was code for enriching oneself while making others pay for it. These men likely belonged to a secret society and they engineered the destruction of the Kankakee by corrupt, greedy, illegal dealings.
