Nebraska does the right thing…

On a happier note, Nebraska denied the liquor licenses of the liquor stores in a one-horse town that was selling to the Native folk across the border at Pine Ridge Reservation, even though Pine Ridge is a dry reservation.

When the radio news announced this in April, and the liquor store owners threatened to appeal, I thought that I would be hearing of the rich store owners getting their way, via their sleazebag attorneys. As of today, I have not heard any different.

You might recall that I had a conversation with an activist at Standing Rock.  She had said that she and Native mamas with their babies in strollers formed a line across the road, blocking the liquor truck making deliveries.  The minute the driver saw them, he turned his truck around.  Pretty cool.

The activist knew that he would return the next day, but for that day, they had stopped the genocide-by-bottle.

Let’s hope, for once, the Native folk win one and this ruling sticks.
