This is why people are leery of pitbulls–it took three people to get this dog to let go. This is a known aspect of their personality–they don’t let go once they latch on. Plus they have powerful jaws that can cut deep.
This story hits close to home, as we have had problems from two owners allowing their dogs to roam the neighborhood, when by law, they are supposed to be on a leash. Whenever I take the doggie out, she is always on a leash.
I wouldn’t care about the dogs running loose if they weren’t so aggressive. Two of them have come into our yard and have bitten our dog. Fortunately, it was on a spot where she had a growth, so it wasn’t enough to seek out emergency vet care, but the idea that they would gang up on her–with me standing there–is unnerving. They’re big dogs–one is part boxer and the other is a Dalmation mix. They are aggressive towards people, as well.
We’ve called the animal control officer several times. The dogs are still running loose. I can’t even take Pookie out for a walk around the neighborhood without concern that she is going to be attacked. I took my pepper spray with me last time, just in case. But it makes for an anxious time for something that is usually a pleasant walk.
The problem is not with the dogs so much as it is with the irresponsible owners who couldn’t care less about others’ rights or the damage their dogs can do to other dogs.
